At 8:30 AM New York time (2:30 PM CET), the US Bureau of Economic Analysis released the first estimate of GDP for the third quarter of 2025. The American economy grew surprisingly strong at an annualized rate of +4.3%. At the same time, the US Department of Commerce released data for October on durable goods (−2.2%). Due to the government shutdown, both datasets are likely distorted. At 10:00 AM (4:00 PM CET), the Conference Board released consumer confidence at 89.1 points.

In summary: The US economy grew strongly due to robust consumer demand, high government spending, and a favorable trade balance. However, companies are cautious about investments and hiring new workers. The fifth consecutive decline in consumer confidence is a warning sign.
